This will be a status report on suicide prevention efforts by the VA over the past 14 years and a glimpse of the new initiatives coming to suicide prevention in the next few years. This presentation will involve both local (DE) and national efforts. It will feature items from: The 2021 National Veteran Suicide Prevention ANNUAL REPORT and Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention September 2021.

Course Learning Objectives
1) Learn the meaning of acronyms: Prevents, Save, SSVF, Reach Vet
2) Learn new funding initiatives for local suicide prevention resources
3) Discuss the Veterans Compact Act of 2022. Hannon Act of 2019, and Safe Suicide Reporting

Kent W. Johnson
Job Title
Suicide Prevention Coordinator @Wilmington VAMC
Education and Work Experience
Kent has his MSW from the University of Illinois, Jane Addams College of Social Work from 1980. He is a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland and Delaware and holds several advanced clinical certifications. He has been working in Delaware since 1989 and working with the Wilmington VA Medical Center since 2000. He is currently the senior Suicide Prevention Coordinator with the Wilmington VAMC.
