Warning Signs of Depression
If you think your loved one is suicidal, ASK them. By asking directly, the person at risk can feel relieved and gives them the chance to talk about how they are feeling.Depression may be caused by any type of loss, genetics, or brain make-up. Depression can lead to eating disorders, school and social problems, isolation, physical symptoms, and even suicide. If your teen shows more than 5 or more of these signs, they may be depressed.
- Sadness, anxious, excessive crying
- Weight gain or weight loss, change of eating habits
- Physical symptoms, such as headaches, digestive problems, body pains
- Irritability, moody
- Sleeping too much or too little, waking up several times in a night
- Low energy
- They comment on feelings of being helpless, hopeless, and worthless
- Loss of interest in activities and hobbies
- Difficulty concentrating on homework and tasks
- Difficult to make decision
